Tom Bamberger was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin in 1948. He went to Boston University and finished his education at the University of Wisconsin -- Milwaukee, where he studied philosophy as a graduate student and taught mathematical logic. He has been the recipient of both the National Endowment for the Arts and Wisconsin Arts Boards fellowships for photography. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. His work has been shown at the International Center for Photography and the Burden Gallery in New York City. Recently Tom Bamberger's work was included in the Pleasures and Terrors of Domestic Comfort at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His work has been published by Aperture.
Tom Bamberger is also the adjuct Curator of Photography at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Under his direction the Museum produces three or four photography exhibitions each year. Over the last four years the Museum has also had an active acquistions program which has added significantly to a collection of about 3,000 photographs spanning the whole history of the medium.
